We encourage writers to warn their readers of certain events that may occur in their stories. Selecting certain events may block certain ratings from being selected.
- Any depiction of death in the active tense. This could be either a minor or major character.
- If the depiction is graphic in nature, consider an additional warning for ’graphic depictions of violence’.
Graphic Depictions of Violence
- Explicit Rating Only
- Explicitly described grim and gory details of violence.
Sex
- Any descriptions of sex. If the description is graphic, especially in a pornographic sense, the story must be rated explicit.
Underage Sex
- The parties involved are under the age of 18. For non-human races consider your worldbuilding in reference to modern day Earth. Use your best judgement.
Nonconsensual Sex
- Intercourse that is not between two consenting parties, if the rape is graphic in description consider additionally adding a warning for ’graphic depictions of violence’.
Unsavory
- A generic warning that implies something unfavorable happens in your story but does not specify what it is. This may be best to avoid spoilers while still warning readers.
